What is unique about implementing a complex “conveyor belt” system at a sushi restaurant in Tokyo?

OhayoJapan – SUSHIRO is one of the most popular chains of sushi conveyor (sushi belts) or spinning tire sushi restaurants in Japan. The restaurant chain has been ranked No. 1 in sales in Japan for eight consecutive years.
SUSHIRO is known for offering inexpensive sushi. In addition, the restaurant also guarantees the freshness and luxury of the sushi it sells. SUSHIRO has 500 branches in Japan, so SUSHIRO is easy to find when traveling around Japan.
In this post, we visited the Ueno branch in Tokyo. In this branch, you can find a new type of conveyor belt, which can also be found in other branches in downtown Tokyo.
At the entrance, you will find a machine that dispenses numbered tickets to visitors. However, text printed on this machine is only available in Japanese. So you can ask the restaurant staff for help.
The restaurant staff will guide you to your seat after calling the number on your ticket. Due to the increasing number of foreign tourist customers, the restaurant is currently providing guidebooks in English, Chinese and Korean. This reference card explains how to order, eat and pay. The tablet ordering system is also available in several foreign languages.
A distinctive feature of this industry is the presence of two types of conveyor belts. One of them is a conventional conveyor belt on which sushi plates rotate.
Meanwhile, other types of service are still relatively new, namely the belt “automatic waiters”. This automated server system delivers the desired order directly to your table.
This system is very useful compared to the old system. Previously, customers had to wait for an alert that the sushi they ordered was on the carousel and mixed with the regular sushi on offer.
In the old system, customers could skip ordered sushi or not pick it up in a hurry. In addition, there have also been instances of customers taking the wrong plate of sushi (i.e. sushi ordered by others). With this new system, the innovative sushi conveyor system can solve these problems.
The payment system has also been upgraded to an automated system. Therefore, when the meal is finished, the customer simply presses the “Invoice” button on the tablet and pays at the checkout.
There is also an automatic cash register that will make the payment system even easier. However, the machine is only available in Japanese. Therefore, if you decide to pay through this system, please contact the service personnel for help. If there is a problem with your automatic payment machine, you can still pay as usual.
