Airlines Passengers Can File a Lost Baggage Claim

Kasang Pangarep, the youngest son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), had a bad experience with a Batik Air flight when his luggage was lost at Kuala Namu Airport in Medan, although his flight was bound for Surabaya.
The suitcase itself was found and returned open. Batik Air also apologized for the unfortunate incident. But what if the suitcase gets lost?
As an air passenger, you have rights that the airline must respect. The experience of losing luggage must be very troublesome and annoying.
When waiting for a suitcase or a product in a suitcase that does not appear on the conveyor belt drags on for a long time, of course you get annoyed and confused.
It is possible that luggage can be transported on other routes, as in Kaishan. There is also the possibility that you will be left at the airport of departure or someone will take you away. Whatever happens, airlines must be held accountable.
The official Angkasa Pura Instagram account lists the rules regarding lost or damaged baggage of aircraft passengers. In the event of baggage loss, the airline concerned must fulfill its obligations.
Luggage provisions have also been adjusted, one of which is the Transportation Liability Ordinance No. 77 of 2022, which provides for compensation for damage to passengers’ luggage.
Article 2 of the regulations of the Ministry of Communications states that the carrier operating the aircraft, in this case the airline, is liable for loss or damage to carry-on baggage, as well as loss, destruction or damage to checked baggage.
With regard to the amount of compensation provided for in Article 5, paragraph 1, for the loss of checked baggage or the contents of checked baggage or damaged checked baggage, passengers will be compensated in the amount of IDR 200,000 per kilogram, up to a maximum compensation of IDR 4 million per passenger .
Airline passengers whose checked baggage is damaged will be compensated according to the type, shape, size and brand of checked baggage. Baggage is considered lost if it is not found within 14 days from the date and time of the passenger’s arrival at the destination airport.
Paragraph 3 of the same article states that the carrier is obliged to pay the passenger a waiting fee of IDR 200,000 per day for checked baggage that is not found or declared lost, within a maximum period of three calendar days.
However, the regulation also provides that airlines are exempt from the requirement for valuables stored in checked baggage (unless the passenger declares and shows that there are valuables in checked baggage at check-in and the carrier agrees to carry them, usually airlines require passengers to insure their luggage.
