AHA responds to GOP request for drug shortages, talks about impact on hospitals and patient care

The American Heart Association is assessing drug shortages affecting patient care at the request of House and Senate leaders. Rep. Kathy McMorris Rogers, WA, chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Senator Mike Crapo, ID, senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, requested information to better understand the issue. In its response, the American Heart Association described widespread shortages affecting patients with various medical conditions. The American Heart Association is calling for a range of actions, including strengthening prescription drug supply chains, diversifying manufacturing bases and increasing end-user inventories, and steps the FDA can take to further stabilize the supply of essential drugs in the country.
